Importantly, it represents a scalable framework for clear, measurable carbon removal that brings us closer to our goal of removing 1million tons of CO<sub>2<\/sub> from the atmosphere per year.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2023\/07\/image-54.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129487\" width=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2023\/07\/image-54.jpeg 900w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2023\/07\/image-54-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2023\/07\/image-54-150x100.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2023\/07\/image-54-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/renewable-carbon.eu\/news\/media\/2023\/07\/image-54-400x267.jpeg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><figcaption>The Crofthead site from above\u00a0<strong>\u00a9<\/strong><em> <\/em><em>CCSL<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The agreement between Iona and CCSL is an extension of their existing partnership at Iona\u2019s Crofthead Anaerobic Digestion\/biogas plant in Dumfries (south west Scotland), which is the first and only biomethane facility in Scotland to operate with carbon capture.&nbsp; At their adjacent site to the Crofthead plant, CCSL takes the CO<sub>2<\/sub> from Crofthead to make dry ice for commercial use.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two companies plan to extend their agreement to any future biogas plants that Iona may develop in the UK, continental Europe and North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Alex Todhunter, Investment Manager at Iona Capital said, \u201cThis partnership with CCSL offers the food, cold logistics and pharmaceutical industries a&nbsp;\u201cgreen\u201d&nbsp;dry ice that will help towards their Net Zero and sustainability goals.&nbsp; The utilization of CO<sub>2<\/sub> generated from farm waste and crops is yet another demonstration of how anaerobic digestion contributes to a sustainable low carbon future and the circular economy.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>CO<sub>2<\/sub> is an essential compound used in the food, cold logistics and pharmaceutical industries and is most commonly produced as a by-product during ammonia production (c 80% of the ammonia produced by industry is used in agriculture as fertilizer).&nbsp; Ammonia production is an energy and carbon intensive process, taking up nearly 2% of annual global energy production.&nbsp; 100% biogenic green CO<sub>2<\/sub> from farm wastes and crops, using renewable electricity, provides a low energy green alternative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The captured carbon dioxide will be used by CCSL to create low-carbon and low-energy dry ice for use in the food, cold logistics and pharmaceutical industries.
