The innovative Muoto 3D inner packaging and a box made of Mets\u00e4 Board\u2019s folding boxboard encase Fiskars ReNew scissors made of recycled material.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pure, safe, sustainable, easy to use and recyclable. That is what the plastic-free Muoto 3D fibre packaging, originating in northern forests and set to revolutionise packaging, is all about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cPlastic is everywhere, and while it will continue to play a role in the future, there are countless end uses in which we can use a renewable and recyclable bioproduct instead of plastic,\u201d says\u00a0<strong>Tarja Heikkil\u00e4, Product Manager at Mets\u00e4 Group\u2019s innovation company Mets\u00e4 Spring<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The many shapes of Muoto&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Renewable and sustainably grown Finnish wood is the main raw material of the Muoto 3D fibre packaging.&nbsp; The packaging is made of wet wood-fibre pulp in \u00c4\u00e4nekoski, at Mets\u00e4 Group\u2019s and Valmet\u2019s joint demo plant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cMuoto 3D fibre packages can be shaped in many ways: they are pressed into their final form using new 3D technology that enables the production of rounded, complex shapes familiar from the plastics industry. It is also suitable for creating lightweight yet stiff packaging structures offering good protective properties,\u201d says <strong>Heikkil\u00e4<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The end result is pure and safe Muoto 3D fibre packaging solution of various sizes and shapes, tailored to the end use and offering a sustainable alternative to different types of packages.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Towards a more sustainable future<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Heikkil\u00e4, Muoto is now in a demo stage, meaning that its potential is being tested on the market \u2013 one example being the cooperation with Fiskars Group, a producer of sustainable evergreen tools and utensils.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cFiskars Group believes that forerunner design is sustainable. It covers the entire chain from ideation to sourcing, manufacturing, and business development. We want to challenge throwaway culture in all its forms. Now in the demo stage, Muoto\u2019s production technology and raw material make the product a good example of interesting new initiatives that we\u2019re working on in cooperation with sustainable partners,\u201d says\u00a0<strong>Marko Halttunen, Packaging Design Manager at Fiskars<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Collaborating for better packaging<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The gift packaging, designed jointly by Mets\u00e4 Spring, Mets\u00e4 Board and Fiskars Group, found its shape at Mets\u00e4 Board\u2019s Excellence Centre. It combines a Muoto 3D fibre inner packaging, mirroring the iconic shape of the classic scissors, and Mets\u00e4 Board\u2019s paperboard, which offers a high-quality printing surface for the outer packaging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThe Excellence Centre in \u00c4\u00e4nekoski organises workshops where we can investigate, innovate and test future material and packaging solutions based on renewable fresh fibre jointly with customers,\u201d says\u00a0<strong>Iiro Numminen, Packaging Designer at Mets\u00e4 Board<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The joint workshops enable the participants to harness the best competence of each expert, survey the customers\u2019 needs and collaboratively create innovative solutions that support the circular economy and address all the needs related to the life-cycle of packaging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cOur workshop featured first-class equipment. We were able to make real packaging prototypes, in which we sought to replicate the handprint characteristic of our iconic scissors.
