Luminy\u00ae PLA is made from annually renewable biomass, which growth absorbs CO<sub>2<\/sub> from the atmosphere. As a viable solution for a range of packaging applications, PLA contributes to reducing greenhouse gases.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luminy\u00ae PLA is a biobased material with a 75% reduced carbon footprint as compared to traditional plastic materials. Furthermore, TotalEnergies Corbion also offers recycled Luminy\u00ae rPLA., which contains 20% and 30% post-industrial and post-consumer recycled content in line with ISO 22095 standard. rPLA is sourced from a mix of pre- and post-consumer recycled materials. The material quantification is based on a mass-balance allocation accessed and validated by third-party certification body SCS Global Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;As part of our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalenergies-corbion.com\/about-pla\/recyclability\/\"><em>&#8220;Stay in the Cycle&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0campaign<\/a>\u00a0we have set up a number of closed loop systems where for example Luminy PLA cups and bottles are collected, sorted and cleaned and again used as raw material to make virgin quality Luminy PLA,&#8221; says <strong>Fran\u00e7ois de Bie<\/strong>, Senior Global Marketing Director. He added &#8220;Already ahead of impending Packaging and Packaging Waste regulations we are offering 20% and 30% recycle content containing Luminy\u00ae PLA to interested parties.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The third party certified rPLA is commercially available, has identical properties as virgin Luminy\u00ae PLA, and comes with food contact certifications. Companies like Coexpan, Sansu and Esol are already actively offering products made from Luminy PLA containing up to 30% PLA recycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Alternatively, a viable end of life option for PLA is composting. \u201cWhile compostable tea bags and coffee pods are already widely in use in the Netherlands, we see now an EU wide adoption advancing rapidly,&#8221; said <strong>Fran\u00e7ois de Bie<\/strong>. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Compostable tea bags and coffee pods reduce plastic contamination of compost and prevent valuable organic biomass from ending up in landfill or incinerated. Recently, our collaboration with Danimer Scientific resulted in the launch of home compostable compounds for a range of packaging applications, which are available in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Interpack TotalEnergies Corbion stand in Hall 9 of the Messe Dusseldorf, visitors can experience these innovations, including Group Ati coffee pods made using Luminy\u00ae PLA and PLA compostable ice cream cups and spoons by Florida SRL.\u00a0<strong>All visitors are invited for Drinks &amp; Bites on the inauguration day, Thursday 4th May from 15hrs, and again on Monday the 8th from 15hrs at stand E01 in Hall 9.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interpack is the number one international packaging fair for the sectors food, beverages, confectionery, bakery, pharmaceutics, cosmetics, non-food and industry. The tradeshow is from May 4 to 10.
