The company claims the device can capture up to 95% of CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions per ship.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The technology works by diverting the exhaust into a container filled with oxide pebbles that absorb CO<sub>2<\/sub>, forming calcium carbonate (limestone).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.carboncapture-expo.com\/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=ppc&amp;utm_campaign&amp;utm_term=carbon%20capture&amp;utm_content&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiAiJSeBhCCARIsAHnAzT8MLoVKZOXv1G6JJ9x_MTpvsI9-UAoABDY3tyY1byX3Wrj-fU95WpUaAu16EALw_wcB\">CO<sub>2<\/sub><\/a>\u00a0is then transported to the port where it can be sold for utilisation or sequestration.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cBuilding new ships is extremely capital intensive, and the production of sustainable fuels at scale is 10-20 years away. Carbon capture can help to decarbonize shipping quickly and at scale, and it can be retrofitted onto existing ships,\u201d\u00a0<strong>Walker Kehoe, Founding Engineer at Seabound<\/strong>, said as reported in\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/seabound-taps-crestchic-loadbanks-to-help-test-its-carbon-capture-prototype\/\">Offshore Energy<\/a><\/em>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>To test its prototype on land, Seabound connected its innovation up to a diesel generator to create and capture CO<sub>2<\/sub> without a marine engine.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Crestchic Loadbanks provided a loadbank which applied a full load to the generator.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seabound has built two land-based prototypes that have been used for testing. It aims to start on-ship testing this year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has mandated that commercial vessels will need to document their CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions and prove progress towards achieving an industry-wide target of reducing emissions by 40%. The IMO might adopt a more stringent goal of reaching Net Zero by 2050.
