Dow has announced the launch of ENGAGE\u2122 REN, an innovative and more sustainable brand extension to the ENGAGE\u2122 range of high-performing polyolefin elastomers (POEs). The new brand enabled by Dow\u2019s ECOLIBRIUM technology, will help the footwear industry to unlock a lower carbon footprint and develop more sustainable products which offer the same high-performance results.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the key benefits that ENGAGE\u2122 REN will offer manufacturers in the footwear industry include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Improved foam quality and polymer consistency<\/li>
  • Better resilience<\/li>
  • Lighter foams with equivalent hardness<\/li>
  • Improved abrasion resistance and durability.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    When used alongside other recycled materials, brands will be able to offer a more complete sustainable footwear option to their customers. Soon, these products will be available to sustainability-conscious consumers thanks to Dow\u2019s collaboration with footwear brand, Crocs. Dow has begun supplying plant-based polymers for use in Crocs\u2019 manufacturing process of its proprietary Croslite\u2122 material, which have an even lower CO2<\/sub> impact than their current material. The company will take a mass balance approach to scaling the percentage of plant-based polymers into its footwear over time. Crocs is the first footwear brand to go-to-market with this new material technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Sustainably sourced bio-feedstock<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    ENGAGE\u2122 REN polyolefin elastomers (POEs) are produced using renewable energy and plant-based feedstocks such as used cooking oil. As only waste residues or by-products from an alternative production process are utilized, these raw feedstock materials don\u2019t consume extra land resources nor compete with the food chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    ENGAGE\u2122 REN plant-based polymers deliver equivalent performance in the final application as fossil-fuel counterparts and therefore don\u2019t require reformulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
